Gor Mahia is mourning the loss of Gor Mahia Youth team assistant coach Zablon “Pro” Otieno who passed away on Friday 13th May Morning .
Otieno was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital a few minutes after he collapsed while coming out of the bathroom.
According to the family the former Gor Mahia FC midfielder has been ailing from a heart related problem for last two months before his demise this morning.
‘Pro has been in and out of the hospital for the last two months.Two days ago we took him to a cardiologist at Nairobi Hospital and was stabilized’
Zablon was a member of the Gor Mahia team that won the FKF Cup (currently the GOtv Shield) in 2008.
He served the club as a trainer in the 2011 season before being dismissed in the sweeping changes made to the entire technical bench in 2012. He has been an ever present member of the annual Koth Biro tournament where he led Kaloleni’s A1000 street to the title in the 2015 edition.
In his final playing days, ‘Pro was in Sofa Paka before returning to Gor Mahia where he also served as the club’s senior team assistant coach under Former Gor Mahia Head coach Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno.
He moved to serving the Gor Mahia’s U-20 Youth team in 2014.
Pro played for Mc Millan FC then went to Nairobi team’s U-14 and U-16 youth teams before joining the Mathare United team that went to Brazil in 1992.He also played for Reunion Fc,Gor Mahia,Mumias Sugar.
The burial plans are underway as the family will be meeting at his Kaloleni home on a daily basis.
Otieno who has passed on at the age of 38 has left behind a widow and three children
