Youths working under Nairobi county government’s beautification project dubbed ‘Ng’arisha Jiji’ today stormed Cityhall and protested for not being paid five month salaries.
They sung solidarity songs and at some moment faulted Nairobi governor Mike Sonko for not heeding to their payment request.
According to Embakasi group chairman Mwangi Kuria the attempt to reach the governor has not been fruitful with Environment executive member Veska Kangogoa playing hide and seek with them
‘’We are tired let Sonko give us our money we shall not allow him to joke with our sweats..its our rights and we should be paid ,Five months with nothing is not easy as he may thinks’’ Kuria said.
They have also threatened to quit should Sonko fail to pay them promptly saying the job was not reliable anymore.
‘’We are ready to leave this job, it’s not paying, our houses are locked we don’t have rent yet governor is enjoying himself abroad…’’ they added.
They were later dispersed by police officers from City Hall premises.
