Youths from across Nairobi County are protesting lack after working in a cleaning and garbage collection exercise allegedly sponsored by Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko.

The youths drawn from Kayole’ Matopeni area and Mukuru kwa Njenga separately held protests demanding that they get paid their wages after working.

In Matopeni, the protesters claim money totaling to Ksh 200,000 that was supposed to pay them was given to their area administrator who allegedly squandered it.

They claim they were only given milk and bread to compensate their hard day’s job.

“I had to leave my child alone in the house to do this job hoping that i will get some returns, but nothing has ever come forth,” cried Amina Salime one of the devastated workers.

“They should not deny us our right and give us bread and milk because we are from the slums ,most of us are mothers and have children to feed we cannot go to work the whole day and not get paid.”says Amina.

Youuth from Mukurwe Kwa  Ruben ward in Embakasi South today marched to City hall demanding salaries for over 2 months.

Speaking to Ghetto Radio, Zachary says they were recruited in a project dubbed Sonko SNR by one ‘Abdi’ and were assigned duties to clean up the neighborhood.

He alleges Abdi who is their representative collects their wages at the City hall but has never paid them.

He says they now want the Governor to let them be paid at the ward level to avoid rubbing shoulders with middle men.

Zach adds they have met youth ftom Kibera and Kawangware with similar grievances.
