Street children in Nairobi have urged Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko to fulfill his campaign promise of employing them as cleaners across the county.
They lament that despite the promise he made last year in September while meeting them at city hall, this has not yet been fulfilled.
They reveal to Ghetto Radio news that they were once rehabilitated at Makadara rehabilitation center where they were allegedly forced to drink urine and human faeces by center attendants and guards manning the facilities as punishment for breaking rules.
They say that they are tired of living in squalid conditions in the streets hence want to earn a living through work.
14 year old Chris Mwangi from Kayole and 13 year old Ken Oluoch aka Bezna from Mathare allege that they were part of the street children who had a chance to meet the Governor who also promised to provide them with housing.
The children who ran away from home due to frequent beatings and poverty respectively say they were willing to work for the county but were quick to add that they won’t accept to be taken to rehabilitation centers in Nairobi describing them as hell.
