Wazir Benson Chacha, the man accused of defrauding Members of Parliament was on Wednesday released by a Nairobi Court on a bond of Ksh. 1 Million cash bail or a Ksh 3 million surety.
Magistrate Roseline Oganyo, dismissed prosecution’s argument that he was a flight risk hence the proposal for his bail denial.
Prior to his arrest in Tarime, Tanzania Wazir Chacha was staying with his half-brother in Donholm, Nairobi.
He was released on Wednesday after spending nearly a month in police custody.
On April 2, Chacha was charged with six counts among them conspiracy to defraud, obtaining registration by false pretense and impersonation, all of which he denied.
He was charged with conspiracy to defraud public officers and the general public by registering a mobile number in the name of Murang’a County Woman Representative Sabina Chege.
He is alleged to have committed the offence on March 3, 2018 at Update beauty shop in Nairobi jointly with others not before court.
