Victims Of Ziwani Demolitions Accuse MCA Of Demolishing Their Houses
Victims of a demolition exercise conducted in Nairobi’s Ziwani area are now pointing an accusing finger at the area MCA Millicent Wambui Mugadi of having a hand in the incident.
The victims led by Margaret Nduta claim that MCA Mugadi sent goons to demolish their structures located next to the Kariokor cemetry.
According to Nduta, MCA Mugadi has had an interest in the land since 2017 when the same goons allegedly burnt down a city council nursery in the same area and also murdered a watchman of the nursery.
She says they have even moved to court which has in turn validated their occupation of the land.
“I bought this piece of land in 1999 from the City Council of Nairobi. I have paid land rates that have totaled up to over Ksh. 400,000,” cried Nduta.
Nduta claims that she lost crucial documents and Ksh. 200,000 to the goons who demolished their houses.
Mugadi has however distanced herself from the demolitions stating that the land belongs to the Common Wealth and was used as a cemetry during the World War II.
She has stated that it is the National government that is reclaiming it hence her inability to help in the matter.
“In 2017 during Kidero’s time, i tried to help these guys by telling the Common Wealth People to move the cemetries from the area since people had already started encroaching the land, but these same people insisted that the cemetries should not be moved. Now common wealth wants to fence its land since it’s its burial site, they are the first ones to cry. So how do they want to be helped?” explained Mugadi
