Uhuru’s brother named in contraband sugar scandal

0 746

Members of Parliament on Tuesday expressed outrage after Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Security Dr. Fred Matiang’i failed to appear before the committee to answer questions regarding the controversial contraband sugar.

A letter from Matiang’is Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho asked the MPs to reschedule Dr Matiang’I’s appearance, saying his boss is involved in President Kenyatta’s meeting with East African Community heads of state, a move that triggered outrage.

Aldai Member of Parliament Cornelius Serem accused Matiang’i of not showing up at the committee because he knew of a company linked to President Uhuru Kenyatta’s brother Muhoho Kenyatta supplying the contraband sugar.

Serem was referring to a document that he alleged originated from the Agriculture Ministry that linked Muhoho’s company Protex Ltd for importing some of the contraband sugar.

Committee Chairman Kanini Kega however later intervened by directing Matiang’i to appear before Parliamentary Committee on Friday.
