The University Academic Staff Union has issued an 11 day strike notice to the government.
This means that their strike will start on Tuesday next week.
UASU Secretary General Constantine Wasonga, said the job boycott will be unstoppable until their demand for 2017-2021 Collective Bargain Agreement is met.
“The strike is over lack of progress in the talks, the deadline for concluding the Collective Bargain Agreement was midnight yesterday as we speak the government has not given UASU counter offer”. He said
He added that the negotiations among the interested parties have not bore fruits.
Wasonga says UASU has further granted an extension to give the new Education Cabinet secretary Amina Mohammed and Principal secretary Prof. Mitchen Ntiba to settle in office.
He further said that acting Vice Chancellors are affecting the governance of public universities.
“These individuals serve as acting vice chancellor for more than a year the Cabinet Secretary should ensure new appointment of vice chancellors”.
Some of the public university manned by acting vice chancellors include Kenyatta University, University of Embu, Kirinyaga Moi, Machakos and Garissa University.
This will be there first strike this year as compared to last year when they downed their tools three times.
