Residents of Nairobi’s Mathare 4B area on Tuesday morning held riots following the demolition of their structures by the police.
The riots which started at around 4 am saw the police lob teargas canisters to the rioters in a bid to restore calm.
A two year old boy was allegedly injured after he was hit by a teargas canister lobed by the police in their house.
The child’s father says that they had to administer first aid on the baby who fainted after the incident.
The riots saw, closure of businesses and disruption of normal school programs as pupils failed to go to school.
The residents say that, the police conducted the demolitions to push them out of their business premises and selling them to foreigners who are giving them more money.
Other than that, they say that the policemen use their powers wrongly to carry out brutality against the residents terming it the worst police conduct.
They are calling on the Government to take responsibility and sack police officers who are not ethical and who are not working in accordance with the law.
