Local traders have now resorted to assembling gambling machines after the government banned the importation of gambling machines.
Nairobi County Regional Commissioner Wilson Njega says they have so far seized a number of the illegal gambling and shisha machines assembled locally from traders.
Speaking while overseeing the destruction of the machines, Njega however noted that the number of illegal machines had gone down.
“We raided their warehouse in Lang’ata sometime back and destroyed the machines. We have however remained with samples for prosecution,” said Njega.
“Gambling is illegal and anyone found with those machines will be prosecuted,” said Njega.
Only 263 gambling machines and 100 scissors were burnt today in Makadara as compared to the previous over 1000 machines.
Njega has vowed to intensify the raids until Nairobi is clear of the machines.
Some of the most affected areas include Githurai, Westlands, Makadara and South B.
