Kenyans turned out in large numbers at the Kenyatta International Convention Center (KICC) in Nairobi.
Many braved the long queues and hot weather, to behold the iconic trophy, with some coming from as far as Mombasa.
The 6.1 Kg, 18 carat gold with malachite base trophy landed into the country yesterday and was received by Sports CS Mohammed Echesa and Youth and Gender Affairs CS Margaret Kobia. It was later taken to State House and presented to the President.
This is the third time that the trophy is coming to Kenya. According to FIFA, the trophy tour is targeting 51 countries and 91 cities, Kenya and Nairobi being among them.
The tour is as a result of a partnership between football’s governing body, FIFA and Coca-Cola company.
This year’s tournament will be hosted by Russia, in June, where teams drawn from all over the world will be seeking to dethrone Germany, which won the tournament four years ago.
