Thousands of commuters were today morning stranded following Dandora matatu operators strike.

The operators were protesting an alleged harassment and extortion by police.

The operators barricaded roads and lit tyres on roads forcing many residents to walk to work.

“We have decided to strike to protest the high cases of extortion from the police. They keep accusing us of obstruction and arrest us without any fault,” said one of the operators.

Police were forced to use teargas to disperse the operators.

Some of the routes affected are route 32, 42 and 36.
