The KCB Safari Rally was officially flagged off today by Sports Cabinet Secretary Dr. Hassan Wario flanked by KCB Group Chairman Ngeny Biwott and Group CEO Joshua Oigara.
45 Rally drivers will thrill their ardent fans at Jamhuri Park for the first spectator stage, before heading to Elementaita.
Defending Champion Jaspreet Chatthe was first off the ramp followed by Ian Duncan in a Mitsubishi Evo 10. Finland’s ace Tapio Laukannen will be navigated by Pasi Torma in a Subaru Impreza GVB 13.
“The KCB Group support for motorsport is enormous and visible and together with bank we will see to it that our country is back to the world map in rallying. Today we celebrate our local heroes and it’s my pleasure to wish all the drivers luck in the toughest stages”, said Dr. Hassan.
KCB Group Chairman Ng’eny Biwott said the Bank is committed to the growth of motorsport in the region since 2003.
“KCB Safari rally is the most competitive and popular event in the Kenyan motorsport calendar”.
After Jamhuri spectator stage, crews will embark on a 130km of transport road section through to Lake Elementaita Lodge for the overnight perc Ferme.
Lake Elementaita Lodge will also host Day 2 and 3 spectator stage, Rally Headquarters, Perc Ferme and Service Park.
Cs 2 will cover 37.06 Kms, while Cs 3 will be a distance of 48.83 Kms. The rally will end on Sunday at KICC.
