Sweden based Kenyan International Mary Kinuthia is optimistic that the team will perform well in the upcoming Africa Women Cup of Nations to be held in Ghana.
Speaking at the team’s first training camp at Utalii Grounds the former Gaspo Youth player said that the experience she gathered from playing in Europe will only not help her alone but the team as a whole.
“Winning mentality, agility and speed in European football was a good experience and this is what I would like to share with my team mates”.
The 32 named in the squad include five professionals plying their trade in Europe and one in US.
They include the duo of Teresa Engesha and Christine Nafula who alongside Kinuthia had trials with Swedish women second division side Dalhem IF.
Kenya has been pooled in Group B alongside Nigeria, South Africa, and Zambia. Group A comprises of Ghana, Cameroon, Algeria and Mali.
The Starlets will on Wednesday 31st have a friendly match against a select side prom the local women’s premier league.
Two friendly matches, against Uganda and Ghana, have also been lined up ahead of the tourney, whose best three gain automatic qualification to the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup, set to be held in France.
