A section of street children in Nairobi is seeking justice after one of them was allegedly killed by a police officer in Nairobi.
Under the umbrella Masafurrer Association the street children claim that the boy was killed a police officer known to them as Noor attached to the Starehe AP Camp.
The association’s president Angel Theuri says the police officer had previously threatened the boy after he attempted to evict them from their base in Starehe.
“His only crime was to ask the officer where he wanted them to go as they have known the place as their home for many years,” said Theuri.
Theuri further claims that police officer last week took the boy and shot him dead in Majengo area in Kamukunji constituency.
They claim that their attempts to reach their elected leaders including Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko have not yielded anything.
“We feel used by these elected leaders. Before the elections, they promised us many things. Sonko keeps telling us that they are going to do something but nothing has happened,” he said.
The Nairobi County government last week launched a crackdown on street children withing the Central Business District.
Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko stated that those caught in the swoop will be taken to rehabilitation centers and rescue center.
