“The fitness level is good.In fact we are surprised that the players are in good condition and that means they are ready to play”.
Kenya National team Harambee Stars is in preparation ahead of the African Qualifiers Match against Guinea Bissau.
Harambee Stars will begin away from home, playing on Wednesday 23rd March in Bissau before the national team hosts the tiny West African nation in the return leg in Nairobi on Sunday March 27 at the Nyayo National Stadium.
Being the first match under his watch Coach Stanley Okumbi is confident that the National team will perform better to meet the fans expectations.
“I have watched the footage of Guinea Bissau play.I watched the previous Harambee Stars play.I have already picked the positive from them.The players who have assembled here are ready to play with the ones who are outside the country and with good preparations we’ll be able to meet the expectations of the fans.”
Addressing the media at the Moi Sports Centre Kasarani, Okumbi says that at the moment the ‘Stars’ are fit to face the challenge as believes that there is a genuine chance to earn the qualifiers ticket.
“We have a genuine chance. What we are supposed to do is to motivate the players, show them that we can do it they need to gain more confidence and that is the spirit” Okumbi said.
Meanwhile there’s a new kid in the block.
Joseph Stanley Okumu was signed by Chemelil Sugar head Francis Baraza straight from high school and now is among the team that will travel to Guinea Bissau on Tuesday 22nd March.
Okumu famously known as “Crouch” is enlightened to be given a achance to proove himself in Harambee Stars.
He is set to play in the central defence.
