Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has announced that illegal dumpsites in the county will be turned into playgrounds for children.
Sonko on Monday said he had instructed environment of officials last week to utilize the dump sites in better ways and playgrounds being one of them.
“Last week I instructed my environment department officers to utilize all illegal dump-sites in a better way by converting them into playgrounds for children,” said Sonko.
One of the illegal dumpsites already under the process of rehabilitation is the Kangemi dumpsite located next to the cemetry which is being turned into a park.
“Today I’m happy to announce that a section of Kangemi area cemetery which was turned into illegal dumping site is now under rehabilitation and very soon residents of those areas will use it as a park,” he said.
Sonko further called on all Nairobians to ensure that they dump their garbage at designated dumping areas.
