Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has halted the ongoing demolition of buildings in Nairobi’s Kayole area.
Sonko who visited the site today ordered the vacation of the demolition excavators from the site with immediate effect.
The governor says the order came just after his conversation with president Uhuru Kenyatta.
Families whose houses have been demolished today camped at Sonko’s office seeking intervention and help after they were rendered homeless by the demolitions.
Dozens of the displaced families from Kayole, have spent nights in the cold following the demolitions that began on Tuesday.
They claim that they were not given enough time to move and that the demolitions are being conducted in an inhumane way.
