60 Certified Kenyan coaches are expected to receive a skill transfer training in a coaching camp that is set to be held later this Month.
In a partnership between English Premier League football giants Arsenal and the country’s leading betting firm SportPesa the training will be conducted only at a youth level.
The deal has two camps a year and this is the inaugural one.
Those expected to benefit from the event dubbed “Arsenal Football Training Camp” include the U-20 Youth coaches,U-20 grass root football teams and U-20 Youths from other leagues across the country.
Speaking during the signing of the partnership held at the Betting firm Headquarters,Sportpesa CEO Ronald Karauri announced that a team of three Arsenal coaches including Paul Drew Tyler, Mohammed Moaz Awadelkarim and Rupen Shah together with renowned legend Sol Campbell will conduct the event.
“Instead of bringing foreign coaches to head our teams,It’s best for us to embrace trainings for our coaches so that in future we will be seeing a technical bench with Kenyans only” said Karauri.
Extreme sports who have been organizing the youth football leagues at a grassroot level in the country for the last twelve years were involved in the selection of the youth teams that qualify for the training.
Extreme Sports CEO Hussein Mohammed announced that for Kenya to qualify for the World cup 2022,there’s a need for a requisite skills to be achieved at every level.
“The biggest value for Kenya in this is skill transfer.Nobody can ever take that knowledge away from our coaches once it’s been impacted on them.The transfer will again be handed over to the next generation” said Hussein who expressed his delightment.
Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) are also to take part in the selection of the Secondary School teams and Coaches to take part in the training.
The betting firm also plans to open a foundation which will nurture the talents among other endeavors
The event will hold between 23-28 May at Kenya School of Monetary Studies on Thika road.
