Senators express fury over decision to shut down counties
Senators have expressed fury over the decision by the Council of Governors to shut down counties following the stalemate over the division of revenue funds.
The senators claimed that CoG Chairman Wyclife Oparanya’s decision to lock down counties was ill informed and unethical.
“I want to take this opportunity to condemn that act Mr. Speaker. Mr. Speaker the chair of Council of Governors is irresponsible in the manner in which he is handling important matters in this country… Mr Speaker we will not accept this kind of leadership,” said Malala.
Malala further accused Oparanya of mismanaging Ksh. 467 Million Covid-19 funds given to Kakamega County.
“And i want to tell this nation, and as the senator for Kakamega coincidentally the governor comes from Kakamega Mr. Speaker… the only thing the governor did was to purchase land for cemetery Mr. Speaker,” said Malala.
Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo also threatened to impeach Governor Kivutha Kibwana if he will follow CoG’s instructions and shut down the counties.
Oparanya had earlier announced that from Thursday all county services will be paralysed across the country after the senators failed to pass the revenue sharing formula.
The CoG chairman said county health facilities will not permit any new inpatient admissions.
“They will only provide minimal outpatient services,” he said.
