First daughter Sasha Obama is expected to wrap up her abbreviated stint in the food service industry Friday retiring from her summer job as a server/bus girl/hostess at Nancy’s restaurant on Martha’s Vineyard.
Sasha is expected to join her family for a vacation at the same venue.
The president’s youngest spawn has been working at the popular Oak Bluffs eatery since Monday, learning to run the registers, serve customers and deal with the demands of hordes of hungry tourists.
In other words, getting some real-life experience outside the White House bubble.
The president and first lady’s press people declined to discuss Sasha’s summer gig.
The Obamas, who have strived to raise Sasha and her older sister, Malia, as normally as possible, considering that their dad is the Leader of the Free World, kind of got a kick out of their youngest doing what loads of teenagers just like her do every summer — albeit with a six-person Secret Service squad in tow!
“She kind of just blends right in,” a server at Nancy’s told us, adding that if Sasha wants to come back next summer — when her dad is no longer commander-in-chief and she’s no longer the center of all kinds of press attention — he’s pretty sure the restaurant would love to have her.
After news of Nancy’s most famous employee went global, Sasha returned to clock in for her usual morning shift but she did not work the takeout window.
“She worked until noon but did not work the register,” said one island snitch.
That was probably on orders from her Secret Service contingent, who stand guard outside the restaurant when the president’s daughter is on duty.
On Wednesday, before the Track broke the news of Sasha’s taste of how the other half lives, we did see her waiting on customers who were ordering early lunches. But yesterday she kept mostly out of sight, doing prep work and setting up in the back of the house before the eatery opened for lunch.
Sasha will finish up Friday, then join the rest of the family, who arrive on the Vineyard tomorrow for their annual two-week summer hols. It will be the final island visit of the Obama presidency. The first family has vacationed on The Rock every summer except for the year he ran for re-election.
We are expecting a lot of the same-old, same-old from the Obama vacation. They are renting the same Chilmark estate they’ve occupied for the past couple of years, and the president will play golf just about every day with a rotating cast of celebrities in his tee party.
There may be a visit to the Bunch of Grapes bookstore with the girls — unless they’ve already got the new Harry Potter — and a couple of date nights with Michelle. (They like State Road, The Sweet Life Cafe and Beach Plum Inn.)
The first fam also usually spends a day at the beach and takes a bike ride en famille in the Manuel F. Correllus State Forest.
Another Obama tradition we’re guessing they don’t skip: A visit to Nancy’s for some of their famous fried seafood — and truly exceptional service!
