Kenyans led by Deputy President William Ruto and Opposition leader Raila Odinga have condemned the incident in which a tanker exploded along Nairobi-Naivasha Highway exploded killing 40 people.
Deputy President William Ruto through his Twitter handle issued a condolence message to the victims of the accident while urging motorists to be careful on the roads.
Mr Ruto, speaking at the accident scene later, said the government will offer support to families of the victims and that a tracing centre had been opened up at Naivasha police station.
“The country has woken up to terrible news from Naivasha.
@IdaOdinga and I offer our profound condolences,” tweeted Raila.
“We were from my older brother’s burial, and i was driving my own vehicle, then all of a sudden we heard an explosion,” narrated an eye witness a mid sobs.
