A section of residents of Mathare’s Mabatini ward area has been forced to move after sewer water flooded their houses.

The residents claim that sewer water flooded their houses due to the poor drainage system in the area.

They say last night’s heavy rains saw the drainage system swell up filling the houses with sewer water.

“These people have been forced to leave houses for fear of contacting cholera and other viral diseases caused by poor hygiene,” said an area resident.

The residents further fear that a bigger disaster might occur if the river bursts its banks and flood the houses.

They are calling for a lasting solution from the county government to salvage the situation.

Other areas that have been affected by heavy rains in Nairobi include Kariadudu and Kasabuni in Ruraka Constituency.
