Police officers in Nyanza region are said to be colluding with traders to impede war against illicit brew in the area.

Nyanza Regional Commissioner Moffat Kangi ordered police officers to carry out crackdown on illegal brews.

The Ministry of Interior confirmed that most of the illicit drinks come in from Uganda and that some licensed local distillers are involved in manufacturing the drink due to a high demand.

Local police have been accused of protecting distillers who produce illegal drinks.

The commissioner, who was recently posted to the region, however refused to respond to questions about past government operations saying that he can only account for his tenure.
