Police were on Thursday forced to fire teargas to disperse a group of Kenya National Union of Teachers officials who had milled around the union’s headquarters in Nairobi.
The officials had arrived at the building along Mfangano Street to ostensibly eject their Secretary General Wilson Sossion whom they accused of mismanaging the union.
Sossion had obtained a court order on Wednesday blocking the meeting which he claimed was being fronted by the enemies of the union.
They demanded that Sossion, a nominated lawmaker, vacates office and protested his defiance after he earlier stated that he will stay put.
The officials said they had not received court orders forbidding the National Executive Council meeting.
