Police from Chuka are holding a Nairobi-bound minibus that was impounded on Friday along Chuka-Nairobi highway carrying drunk students who were travelling home after closing schools.
Police recovered rolls of bhang and two cans of alcohol on the floor of the minibus belonging to Huruma Minibus Sacco that is licensed to operate within Nairobi city.
Speaking to journalists, Chuka/Igambang’ombe OCPD Barasa Sayia said police chased the overspeeding bus after attempts to flag it down failed.
The officers chased the bus that was speeding and intercepted it at Kangoro market at the border of Tharaka-Nithi and Embu Counties.
The 33 children from Karamugu Girls’ High and 24 from Ikuu Boys’ High were escorted to Chuka Police Station where they were locked up but later handed over to their principals.
