The second phase of the Polio Vaccination campaign is set to kick off on Wednesday this week.
The polio vaccination campaign spearheaded by the Ministry of Health is set to cover 12 of the 47 counties namely, Nairobi, Kajiado, Machakos, Kiambu, Garissa, Wajir, Mandela, Isiolo, Meru, Lamu, Kitui and Tana River.
The first phase of the polio vaccination campaign was conducted in Nairobi in the month of May after samples of the virus were discovered in Kamukunji constituency.
National Director of Medical Services,Dr Jackson Kioko stated that the vaccination will help prevent further spread of the virus and also help in achieving the global attempt of eradicating polio by 2019.
The campaign which is set to go on to Sunday will see health workers go door to door administering the oral vaccine to childen under 5 years.
Kioko also mentioned that the Ministry of Health will work together with the Ministry of Education to ensure that all children joining the education system have been fully vaccinated.
