Several people were injured and a General Service Unit (GSU) vehicle damaged as officers fought over a woman in a bar in Mutuati market, Igembe North, Meru County on Sunday night.
One GSU officer is said to be nursing injuries after the officers engaged irate residents after the dispute.
The officers escaped on foot leaving behind their vehicle’s key.
Isaac Mwiti, who was injured in the fracas, said about five GSU officers entered the bar on Sunday night in pursuit of a woman who was said to have dumped one of them.
Mwiti said the bar owner, Richard Koome, was admitted to Kiirua Mission Hospital after he was hit with a stone and lost some teeth.
In 2015, a police officer shot and killed his female colleague and a GSU officer before killing himself at a bar in Kinisa Market, Igembe North.
