marikitiOperations along Nairobi’s Haile Selassie have been paralysed following demonstrations by Marikiti traders in Nairobi.

The traders who are protesting harassment by City Council askaris have lit bonfires on the road and blocked a section of the road.

They are also demanding the release of one of their Chairperson whom they say was arrested yesterday for allegedly defending one of the traders who was allegedly beaten by a council askari.

Police’s efforts to disperse the traders using teargas have been futile as the traders keep retreating and coming back for more demonstrations.
