Ole Kina breaths sigh of relief after decision to dewhip him was reversed
Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina can now breath a sigh of relief after Raila Odinga directed the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party to reverse the decision to dewhip him from Senate committees.
The senator and the ODM party leader met at Raila’s Karen home on Tuesday morning alongside a group of elders from the Maa community.
agreed to withdraw a case he had filed against the party over the Senate County Public Accounts and Investment Committee (CPAIC) chairmanship row.
According to Mr. Odinga, Ole Kina also surrendered the Senate CPAIC chair seat and apologized.
“Senator @ledamalekina has this morning agreed to withdraw the case he filed against @theODM party over the senate public accounts committee chairmanship, surrendered the seat and apologised, In return, I have instructed the party to reverse the decision to de-whip the senator.” Raila wrote in a tweet
The revelations implies that Olekina will also retain his senate seat in the powerful House Business committee where he was removed.
Olekina was de-whipped from the committees following his election as the chairman of the influential CPAIC.
The senator reportedly went against the party position to preserve the seat for Kisii Senator Sam Ongeri.
Following his election Senator James Orengo wrote a protest letter expressing dissatisfaction with the conduct and outcome of the elections.
“We intend to withdraw our membership from the said committee until an appropriate resolution can be made,” Orengo Said
Ole Kina however dismissed Orengo and ODM’s attempt to kick him out saying the letter has holds no basis and must be treated with contempt.
He then filled a case at the High Court where Justice Weldon Korir granted a temporary order barring ODM from removing him from the seat.
