Kenya national Union of Nurses has faulted the government for neglecting the union in its plans to achieve the universal health care in the country.

In an interview with Ghetto radio News the union secretary general Seth Panyako said  they have tried to engage cabinet secretary for health,Sicily Kairiuki  over the same but even appointment to meet the CS  has not materialized.

Panyako said it will be difficult for government to achieve much in health sector and even the Big four agenda without solving basic needs of health workers salaries included.

‘‘We are in the dark, the government has not made single attempt in reaching us and even making us understand all program pertaining universal healthcare but they must address basic health first.’’ He said

Meanwhile  the union is currently engaging with the government over a new  collective bargaining agreement CBA and Panyako is optimistic that nurses issues  will be addressed amicably.

‘‘The negotiations are underway we are only awaiting SRC to approve it but we have been assured by the government that our money has been factored in the budget,’’ he stated.

The team is waiting for the new SRC   commissioners to assume office before their desires are looked into.
