The National Transport and Safety Authority has deregistered operation licenses for at least seven Public Service operators.

In a statement NTSA says it has deregistered the the licenses for the vehicles over the violation of provisions of section 5(1) of the National Transport Safety Authority Regulations 2014.

Among the operators whose licenses have been deregistered include; Molo Shuttle Sacco, Nairobi Kiruline Services, Gakango Sacco, New Lowland Sacco, Hannover Commercial Enterprise, Newlot Sacco and Peja Travellers.

According to the statement,Section 34 of the NTSA Act gives the authority powers to deregister the licenses.

The authority’s action comes just a few days after the government gave Public Service Vehicles two weeks to adhere to the Michuki rules failure to which they face deregistration.

Among the rules the PSVs are supposed to comply with are, conductors and drivers wearing uniform, all matatu’s to bear the yellow stripe, all vehicles to have seat belts among others.
