Nairobi county government in partnership with Brookside company will now provide free milk to all public ECDE centers in Nairobi a move geared to boost the health of the children.
Speaking during the launch, Nairobi governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko said 1700 pupils are expected to benefit from the program and they will be given a packet of milk twice a week.
In his speech Sonko asked those in charge to ensure the program benefits the children.
‘‘We all know that most of our children are poor and this program will ensure they are of good health as well as boosting their learning standards ,’’ he added.
The county government has also cancelled the process of hiring new ECDE teachers saying the process was a sham and it had to start afresh.
Sonko said the county government will employ additional two teachers per center and he will ensure those who have been doing the job without pay in the past will get first priority, before they source others from outside the system.
‘‘I will ensure that those who have been suffering in the last regimes in these centers without employment get first priority before county we go for others,’’ he stated.
He was speaking at Martin Luther Primary school Hamza Makadara today.
