Nairobi County Assembly Sends Supplementary budget back to Sonko Declines To amend It
Nairobi county assembly has rejected recommendations by Nairobi governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko to amend the Supplementary Budget Bill citing legal challenges. The assembly instead sent the budget back to the governor for signing.
In the ruling Nairobi speaker Beatrice Elachi says all the matters raised by the governor are constitutional and that were tackled in the deed that he himself signed.
“I hereby set aside the said memorandum in its entity consequently the said memorandum shall not be committed to the committee of the whole house ..the Nairobi city county supplementary appropriation bill 2020 be returned back forthwith to the governor for signing in manner it was passed” she said.
minority whip Peter Imwatok however asked the governor not to play politics with tax payers money and to signed the bill as it was passed.
“We relied much on the law as its stands, Sonko has only 7 days to assent to that Bill because he is just realising that the national government took 80% of his functions and he has no government to run..” He said.
