The parents of Miss Albinism 2016 are accusing nominated MP Isaac Mwaura of neglecting their daughter Loise Lihanda and other persons with Albinism.
This is despite Mwaura heading the Albinism Society of Kenya, an organization that fights for the rights of people with Albinism.
Loise’s father Albert Lihanda who was admitted in hospital for four days following a short illness is crying foul after MP Mwaura failed to help him settle hospital bill at the Nairobi Hospital despite Mwaura recommending her transfer from St Mary’s Hospital to Nairobi Hospital following Doctors strike.
“We first took our daughter to St Mary’s hospital when she started vomiting and complained of severe headache. When her condition failed to improve, we called mheshimiwa who instructed us to take her to Nairobi Hospital. We did so, knowing that since he had suggested that,
Lihanda who lives in a mabati shanty with his wife and children in Nairobi’s Ziwani narrated to Ghetto Radio News how her impoverished family struggled to raise the 25,000 shillings bill at the hospital with Mwaura giving only 2000 shillings.
According to Lihanda, persons living with albinism through the Albinism Society of Kenya are allocated 90 million every year.
“That money is not for lotions only, I believe it should also cater for other needs like my daughter’s,” stated Lihanda.
Loise Lihanda was crowned Miss Albinism last year in Beauty Pageant organized by the Albinism Society Of Kenya.
Loise is a student at the Multi Media University of Kenya. Her father is jobless and her mother is paying her school fees from the meager earnings she gets after washing people’s clothes.
Nominated MP Isaac mwaura refused to comment when reached for comment over the matter.
