Messi reigns at Camp Nou
Barcelona crossed to the quarter in style after scoring 3-0 at home, thus proceeding to the quarter finals on a 4-1 aggregate.
Lionel Messi showed us why he is the King of Camp Nou after netting a brace and providing an assist.
The first goal came in the 3rd minute. Cheslea were sitting in their own half when the ball came to Messi who dribbled past Hazard with ease, to slot in a low right footed finish.
Barcelona’s next goal came in the 20th minute, courtesy of Ousmane Dembele. Messi took advantage of a fumble by Fabregas, nipping the ball from him. He then proceeded to dribble past Christensen and Azipilicueta, finally offloading the ball to Dembele who put the ball out of Courtois’ reach in the far left.
The Argentinian put the final nail in the coffin in the 63rd minute. Louis Suarez had been given too much space in the Chelsea third. He made a run for goal at the same time assessing his options, finally offloading to Messi. Messi again reigned havoc on the Chelsea defenders and finally put his second past Thibaut Courtois.
Antonio Conte’s men played their hearts out but they were no match for the little magician. With a catalogue of missed chances and a few sparks of brilliance, they would have turned the game around.
This loss puts Antonio Conte in a precarious position. The Italian has been out of favor with the Chelsea board. Chelsea are fifth on the Premier League standings, four points behind Liverpool, who are fourth. With eight games remaining, it will be interesting to see if he will remain at the Bridge.
Rumors are that he is on his way out and that Guus Hiddink has already been contacted. Hiddink is expected to take charge until the end of the season.
