5000m Africa silver medalist (2007) Josephat Kiprono Menjo and two-time New York and 2012 Berlin Marathon champion Geoffrey Mutai will battle out in this year’s Baringo half Marathon slated for Saturday November 5.
Menjo and Mutai are among athletes will be among the 250 participants confirmed to take part the annual event.
The 14th Edition will also see former Kass marathon champion Amos Mibei and Japanese based athlete Amos Kaptich take part in the competition.
Winners for both the men and women’s races will carry home Sh200,00 whereas the first and second runners up will take Sh100,000 Sh70,000 respectively.
The Paul Tergat organized race received a Ksh 3million boost from Lotto Foundation as the title sponsors of Baringo Half Marathon.
Meanwhile Baringo County Sports Department representative Emily Kibet said that Baringo county government is set to develop two training camps with an aim of tapping grassroots talents.
“We are coming up with athletics camps in Northern and Southern parts of the county.We are also developing our stadiums so that our athletes will have a place to train”.
Besides Paul Tergat Baringo County boasts of producing some of the big names in Athletics in the country including Mary Keitany,Irene Cherotich and Mutai.
Baringo county government has vowed to embrace athletics by developing sports facilities as well as high altitude training camps .
“We are preparing our young athletes so that they can join in the list of the elite runners produced in the area.”
