The media council of Kenya has rolled out the election coverage guidelines ahead of the August 8th elections.
The guidelines which are mainly aimed at guiding journalists to report in an unbiased manner were created by the media council inpartnership with UNDP, Communications Authority of Kenya and IEBC.
Media Council CEO Harun Mwangi urged journalists to get facts of a story before airing to avoid spreading fake news.
Mwangi says they are planning to train 1500 journalists in election coverage as opposed to the 2500 journalists trained in 2013.
Communications Authority ‘s Chair Francis Wangusi further emphasised on the need for journalists aspiring for political seats to leave the media houses.
