Members of parliament have today grilled interior cs Fred Okengo Matiang’i over the on-going crackdown of contraband sugar and other goods in the country.
Appearing before Parliamentary Committee on Trade headed by Kieni Mp Kanini Kega, Matiang’i however stated that he cannot confirm whether the nabbed contraband sugar contained mercury.
He however maintained that the sugar harmful substance and not good for consumption.
He further added that the sugar barons have a huge network of terrorism and that is why the government has also involved interpol to help in the hunt of perpetrators.
At some point the tough talking Cs was taken head on by Mumias East constituency member of parliament Ben Washiali on why he has been snubbing earlier summons by the MPS to answer the queries relating to contraband goods.
The Mps also cautioned Matiangi against favouring powerful individuals saying the same sword should be used across the board.
The sugar politics has flooded the country with precedent’s brother being dragged into it by deputy president Rutos’ allies and it has even caused some cracks within the Jubilee party.
