Mathare residents protest homeless man’s murder during curfew hours
Residents of Mathare 3C on Monday night took to the streets to protest the murder of a homeless man in the area.
According to a section of the residents, the man is well known in the area because he makes a living by carrying luggage for people in the area.
Residents are now calling on the police to openly explain why the man was gunned down adding that he lived on the streets.
Residents blocked off police who went to pick up the body at around 7:00 pm demanding to know why the man had been killed.
“Around 7:00 pm there were some gunshots. It was then that he was shot. He was just someone we saw around here who used to carry luggage for people in return for some coins. It’s the police who shot him then went to get the vehicle to remove the body. When they came back residents blocked them demanding for answers.” An eye witness told Ghetto Radio.
The killing has now sparked outrage across social media with many Kenyans gathering under the hash tag #policebrutalityke to call for an end to police brutality and justice to all who have been affected.
The body was taken to city mortuary.
