Mathare slums  residents living  on riparian land along  Nairobi River  are now opposed to the on going demolition exercise  in Nairobi saying they do not have anywhere else to go.

Speaking to  Ghetto Radio News the residents want Nairobi regeneration team  and Nairobi governor Mike Sonko to spare them saying they only need  a wall to be built along the river bank saying it will prevent floods from reaching their structures.

According to them the idea seems much better than diverting a river as Kiambu governor  Ferdinand Waititu suggested.

They also claim that what they earn cannot help them afford houses in other parts of Nairobi or Mathare.

No demolition notice has been issued so far in Mathare.
