Mathare residents given one day to vacate houses next to the river

Mathare residents living in structures next to the River have been given a one day notice to vacate the area or face forceful evictions by the police.

Mathare Sub County assistant Commissioner Naftali Kojo who toured the area today stated that more than 100 structures built next to river.

Kojo warned them that they risk losing their lives to floods if they continue staying in those houses.

Water levels in Nairobi River that cuts through Mathare slums went up following heavy rains last night.

The assistant commissioner and his officers will tour the place tomorrow to ensure that his vacation notice has been followed up.
