A section of matatu operators have staged a threat to withdraw membership from the Matatu Owners Association over what they term as the association’s collision

Those that have withdrawn their membership include the Matatu Welfare Association, Matatu Travellers Vehicles Association, Mount Kenya Association, Association of Bus Operators Kenya and Association of Matatu Operators.

According to Calvin Nyaure, Chairman of the Association of Motor Vehicle Transporters states that they are withdrawing their membership from the association over claims that it is being run by cartels.

Nyaure claims that since the crackdown of Public Service Vehicles, their 14-seater and 33-seater vehicles are being forced out of the roads by the government without their involvement.

They are asking the government to give them a relevant reason as to why they are denying them access to operate their vehicles in a smooth way, especially due to the fact that they have already complied with the Michuki Rule.
