The government has released new betting rules that will see betting companies barred them from using celebrities in endorsing their activities.

The National Betting and Licensing Board has also banned outdoor advertising of gambling, advertising of gambling on all social media platforms and advertising gambling between 6 am and 10 pm.

The new arrangement is likely to affect several betting companies and media houses in the country.

Betting firm Betin and 1XBet already have contracts with MacDonald Mariga and his brother Victor Wanyama as their brand ambassadors.

Mariga’s contract entails him having his image in Betin’s billboards, Televisions and print newspaper adverts. He has been feautered alongside former Citizen TV Host Joey Muthengi.

Wanyama has also featured in several 1XBet posters.
