Many Kenyans Suffering Mental Health Without Their Knowledge
One out of four persons are mentally ill without their knowledge .
This is according to senator Silvia Kasanga a mental health champion who was suffered post traumatic stress disorder.
It is Kasanga’s recovery from mental illness that led her to push for the Mental health Amendment Bill 2018 which was passed in the senate.
Kasanga added that most mental illness signs are mistaken for being mad only hence stress, eating disorders, lack of sleep, alcoholism and other minor signs which neglected symptoms
According to Kasanga, the national government has done less in fighting mental illness.
Kasanga says mental health budget has been included in the health budget but less is utilized leaving hospitals dealing with mental illness such as Mathare with challenges.
