It is now clear that six top supermarkets and meat outlets in Nairobi have been selling toxic meat to their customers.
Results from national government laboratory have revealed so from the the samples that were taken to the ministries by Nairobi County government public health officials.
According to Nairobi county deputy director public health Kenneth Mando they took 40 samples of meat from different supermarkets and meat outlets and five samples tested positive.
The five outlets that have been selling Nairobians toxic meat include Naivas Supermarket Gateway Mall, Naivas Supermarket Rabai road Buruburu ,Tuskys Kenyatta Avenue, Tuskys Eastlands and Muthaiga Fine meat Limited.
‘‘We raided these premises with our officers and collected the samples and then took the same to laboratory ministry of health and out of 40 samples collected five have tested positive and there were indicating more preservative than required 500 ml.
Health committee chairman Nairobi county assembly Peter Warutere has now called on the Sonko’s government to move with speed and close all the outlets that their samples have tested positive including the adversely mentioned super markets.
‘‘We demand immediate closure of these outlets we cannot sit down and watch Nairobians suffer …let them close these premises investigate further before being allowed to do the business , they are killing us slowly.’’ Warutere said.
The six outlets are accused of contravening section 4 and 36 (1) of Food, Drugs and Chemical Substances Cap 254 as contained in Statute Law Act No. 2 of 2002. to explain to the court why they have been using preservatives beyond the 500 milligrams per kilogram that is the limit allowed by law.
