Embakasi Central MP Benjamin Gathiri popularly known as Meja Donk on Tuesday promised a cash reward of Ksh. 100,000 to any youth who will return an illegal gun.
Gathiri who was speaking in Kayole on Tuesday before his arrest says the cash reward is to help the criminals reorganize their lives after they have quit crime.
“When am giving them the money, am giving them the money to go and start an income generating business. Not that am giving them the money to go and misuse,” he stated.
The government has given anyone in possession of an illegal fire arm 90 days to return the guns or face a forceful disarmament.
The Amnesty which began on the 10th of December will end on the 10th of March.
Ghetto Radio in partnership with Regional Center for Small Arms and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been conducting a campaign urging criminals and anyone in possession of a firearm to return them before the expiry in March.
Some of the areas visited by the campaign team include Mathare, Kayole and Mukuru Kwa Njenga slums where crime has thrived.
