Among the Achievements by the Kenya Rugby Union is that of the Simba 15s being ranked 24 in the latest World Rugby rankings.A success that has landed them Ksh 0.6 billion cash boost after betting company Sportpesa agreed to fund the development of U-19s,National Women’s Rugby team and Kenya 15’s Squad.
Betting firm SportPesa who are now KRU’s headline partner has allocated Ksh 607 million to the Union.A five year deal that will also cater for performance based incentive program for the 15,U-19 and the Women’s team during international assignments.
The news was met with huge relief by KRU Chairman Richard Omwela describing the major boost as historical as he reaffirmed that the Union will account for every single cent spent.
“We are pleased the partnership touches on the very core of our Rugby Development and sustainability.Kenya Rugby is destined for growth something that ties in well with Sportpesa’s ambition to steer the country to greater global Rugby heights.
Sportpesa Boss Ronald Karauri reiterated that “it is another momentous occasion for Sportpesa to spread its tentacles across Kenya’s Sporting terrain.”
He said that the partnership aims to give plartform and recognize young people who are hugely Talented yet lacking in exposure and finacial support to leverage on their abilities.
“It is in the recognition of the biggest plartform to build thenext Dan Odongos,Willy Ambakas,Peter Karias and Collins Injeras that SportPesa is here today” he added.
Wishing the Simba 15s luck ahead of their match against Uganda added that in the enda of the five year support KRY and the betting firm would have groomed the next generation of Rugby stars at the grassroot Level.
