KPL Reinstates Muhorobi Youth and sofapaka

0 215

Muhoroni Youth and Sofapaka have been reinstated in the Kenyan Premier League 2017 season after KPL included the two clubs in the just released fixtures.

While the stalemate on the expanded league between FKF and KPL seemed to have been resolved following an agreement that the federation would fund the accommodation of the two additional clubs KPL went on to release a fixture for 16 teams only.

KPL argues that the decision to have two additional clubs in the league should take effect a year prior to the next season as per the agreement between the two parties and that it should take effect in the next season.

KPL went on to defy the decision by FKF to expand the top tier league to 18 teams ahead of the season’s kick off in February 11.

At the same time while Nzoia United and Kariobangi Sharks from the National Super League (NSL) remains to take part in the top tier league, Vihiga and KCB who were recently promoted have been left out.

Instead Muhoroni and Sofapaka who were demoted by FKF for failing to comply with CAF club licensing requirements have been reinstated .

KPL Governing council on Monday met anonymously and agreed to support an immediate and urgent petition by Muhoroni Youth and Sofapaka against what is described as “irregular and dubious relegation”

They also agreed to adopt the fixtures for the 2017 season for the 14 KPL giants which legitimately qualified on sporting merit on the field in 2016.

KPL Governing council agreed to appeal to the relevant authorities and judicial bodies all previous and future FKF decisions which violate FIFA Principles/regulations and the FKF-KPL Agreement.

This comes days after Sofapaka and Muhoroni made announcements insisting that the two clubs would take part in the 2017 season despite being relegated NSL.

Zoo Kericho and Nakumatt FC having finished third and fourth respectively and who were among the first National Super League sides to be promoted have been excluded as well.
