Kiambu Deputy Governor James Nyoro has declared himself the interim governor of Kiambu County effective today.
Speaking at a media briefing Nyoro declared that he had taken over the of Kiambu County effective today following the court’s decision to bar Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu from accessing his office over graft allegations.
Waititu and his wife and other county officers were arraigned in court on Monday and charged with graft amounting to Ksh. 585 Million.
Justice Mumbi Ngungi had ruled that any governor implicated in a corruption scandal should resign.
Nyoro held his first cabinet today promising to serve the residents of Kiambu with diligence.
Nyoro was flunked by a number of MCAs and Kiambu CECs when he made the announcement.
Nyoro and Waititu have had serious wrangles since the elections with Nyoro accusing Waititu of sidelining him in many county decisions.
